Daniil Medvedev earned a spot in the 2022 Australian Open Final, defeating Stefanos Tsitispas 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. However, the match was not without high-level drama. During a changeover in the second set, Medvedev goes absolutely berserk on chair official Jaume Campistol.

Medvedev is seen screaming at the chair umpire. It became very contentious.

“Are you mad, or what. Bro, his father is talking every point. Are you stupid? His father can talk every point? His father can talk every point? His father can talk every point? Answer my question… oh my god, you are so bad man. How can you be so bad at semifinal of a grand slam? Look at me, I'm talking to you.”

Medvedev was complaining that his opponent was getting coaching in Greek from his father in the stands. He ended up losing that set but ultimately regained his composure, earning his place in the final in four sets.

Medvedev is looking to become the first player during the Open Era to win his first two grand slams in back to back tournaments. He is the reigning 2021 US Open champion, where he won his first career grand slam.

The other half of the bracket saw #6 seed Rafael Nadal take care of #7 seed 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Nadal is seeking to win his record 21st Grand Slam title. He is currently tied with both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic with 20 grand slam titles for the most in history.

Djokovic was deported from the country amid his vaccination and VISA rejection. Djokovic reportedly will not be allowed in the country for three years. He has won more Aussie Opens than any other grand slam tournament.
