Carmelo Anthony is grateful to be back in the NBA. The 10-time All-Star made his Portland Trail Blazers debut on Tuesday against the New Orleans Pelicans, ending his more than one year exile from the NBA.

While Melo was rusty on Tuesday and the Blazers lost, Anthony says his Portland debut was an experience that he “will never forget.”

“I was just happy to be back out there. Playing and getting up and down the court, and putting the uniform back on. It was an experience that I will never forget,” Anthony told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.

Melo played 24 minutes versus the Pelicans. He finished with 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting from the field. The Blazers lost by a final score of 115-104, with Portland dropping to 5-10 on the season.

Anthony played in just 10 games with the Houston Rockets last season before the franchise exiled and traded him to the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls waived Anthony, who had not received any interest from teams since entering the open market until the Blazers swooped in and signed him last week.

Anthony will effectively cost the Blazers $51,000 per day. He will earn $14,490 per day while he’s on the roster in Portland. The contract becomes fully guaranteed if he is not waived by Jan. 7.
