After a five-month stint in which he was engaged in a strict vegan diet, Portland Trail Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard is apparently pumping the brakes on it and will now add chicken and beef back into his eating routine.

According to Thursday's episode of The Hoop Collective podcast with ESPN's Marc J. Spears and Chris Haynes, Lillard revealed that he has indeed ended his exclusive vegan diet.

After he originally wanted to do this in order to get down to his 2012 rookie year weight of 190 pounds, Lillard had to stop because he was losing too much weight.

“I did it to lose some weight and be easier on my feet, knees, and ankles,” Lillard said. “I had a few injuries, so I was trying to get lighter and trying to get healthier and put better stuff in my body. It helped a lot as far as my energy and how I felt.”

Moderation is key to Lillard, as he wants to mix it up more with different types of foods going forward.

“I did it, but I started to lose a little bit too much weight with all the games and practices and all that,” Lillard said. “I had to balance it out, so now I’ve been mixing it up a little bit more, having vegan meals, still mixing it up with other stuff.”

In 37 starts this season for the Blazers, Lillard is currently averaging 25.0 points, 6.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game in roughly 36.5 minutes of action per contest. Portland (23-21) will host the Indiana Pacers tonight in hopes of achieving their second straight victory after they had previously lost three games in a row.
