An alleged leak from within Blizzard paints the studio's reaction to WoW‘s decline in a very bad light. Apparently, players flocking in droves from WoW to FF14 has struck a nerve in Blizzard. However, they seem unwilling to acknowledge the reasons why FF14 is more attractive to MMO players today.

World of Warcraft‘s latest expansion, Shadowlands, didn't meet the expectations of long-time fans, in spite of the long hype Blizzard gave the game leading up to its release. The way Blizzard treated Sylvanas felt like a retelling of Starcraft II‘s Kerrigan, and fans don't appreciate it. WoW‘s team seems to insist that fans will eventually come around with the story's decision and come to accept it. Clearly, this hasn't been the case so far, what with the droves of former WoW fans flocking to FF14.

In fact, FF14  has become so popular recently that SQUARE ENIX ran out of digital copies of the game. Apparently, that can happen. The game's NA servers have also been overcrowded, as many “WoW refugees” struggling to get a slot in the game's servers consistently.

The lengthy text shows how much chaos has been in Blizzard since the recent failures of their titles to produce sizable profits. There's also not a lot of faith in Blizzard's current direction, its leadership, and even in its products. Meanwhile, the leak implies that the ‘people in charge' believe that the game is too big to fail and that its player base will return after they've had their fill on FF14.

While these sentiments are unverified and may as well not reflect the actual feelings and opinions of people within the company, it is clear that Blizzard will have to double their efforts to keep WoW‘s competitiveness over FF14.
