Superstar boxer Canelo Alvarez is in the midst of legal battles with Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN streaming service.

However, Alvarez and his team have already declared the Mexican sensation is a free agent.

Alvarez's coach and manager Eddy Reynoso said in a press release his client is already working on his next bout, suggesting Alvarez will not be tied down by Golden Boy or sponsorships:

“In my role as a manager and coach of Saul ‘Canelo' Alvarez, I allow myself to communicate to the boxing community and to all our fans, that starting today, November 6th, Canelo becomes a free agent, so we are ready to continue with his boxing career,” Reynoso said, via Brent Brookhouse of CBS Sports.

“All this time we have been working very hard in the gym with a lot of responsibility and discipline, to be in great physical shape and ready to fight this year and it will be!

“We will announce date, rival and place very soon, and we will return stronger than ever to keep growing and showing that Mexican boxing is the best.”

DAZN initially agreed to terms with Canelo Alvarez on a five-year, $365 million deal in 2018.

However, the service indicated the need to scale back and prorate some of Alvarez's pay as a result of COVID-19. DAZN also contends Canelo Alvarez has not fulfilled contractual obligations by failing to fight at least one “premier opponent” every year, per Brookhouse.

Alvarez and his team countered with a $280 million lawsuit, and are looking for new deals to help get the former WBO light heavyweight champion back in the ring.

It remains to be seen whether Canelo Alvarez will fight before the end of the year.
