Despite having the home-court advantage, the Boston Celtics were installed as the underdogs to win their Eastern Conference series matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers. That remains to be the case even after Boston bludgeoned LeBron James and the Cavs in Game 1 on Sunday, 108-83, though, the Celtics now have shorter odds to win the best-of-seven affair, per RJ Bell of Fox Sports.

Boston shut down the Cavs’ offense in the series opener at TD Garden, as Cleveland shot just 36.0 percent from the field. Conversely, the Celtics pounced on their opponents’ porous defense, making over 51.0 percent of their shots. Cleveland’s lack of an imposing defensive presence in the middle was thoroughly exposed by Boston, which scored 60 points in the paint compared to just 38 by the Cavs.

Jaylen Brown, Marcus Morris, and Al Horford spearheaded Boston. Brown paced the team with 23 points and eight rebounds. Morris went 7-for-12 from the floor with three 3-pointers for 21 points, while Horford finished the contest with 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting.

The Cavs entered the series with a price of -275 to win the series, thanks in large part to the immense play of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving’s absence in Boston. Moreover, James seems to have the Celtics in the playoffs, as he won in the previous four series opposite Boston. Last year, LeBron led the Cavs to a 4-1 series win in the Eastern Conference Finals over the Celtics.

The Celtics will look to go up 2-0 in the series this Tuesday at home, where they have been undefeated in their last nine games there.
