Chris Daukaus had big plans for his UFC career and he wanted the opportunity for a big fight next. The UFC quickly responded by offering him a fight against Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC Vegas 45.

The former Police officer was surprised it happened this quickly. Main eventing a UFC card against a former title challenger is a big deal.

“This is exactly how I drew it up,” Daukaus joked with MMA Junkie at Wednesday’s media day at the UFC Apex. “No, I had no idea this was going to happen, but this is awesome, and I’m running with it. I absolutely love this.”

Chris Daukaus has had a good career in the UFC and he's getting a well-deserved push. It's not quite what he imagined but the opportunity is a very big one.

“It’s definitely different in a lot of ways, but it’s awesome,” Daukaus said. “Obviously, I have more media obligations and more things to do, but this is something that I wanted. It’s something that, you know, every fighter’s dream is to main event a UFC card. So why not? I mean, it would be a little better if was pay-per-view, but you know, we’ll talk about that later.”

Chris Daukaus will be hoping to avoid Derrick Lewis' big power and prove that he belongs at the top of the UFC heavyweight division. His first main event will be a big opportunity to make new fans and put himself at the top of the division at heavyweight.
