Former NBA All-Star and current TNT color commentator Chris Webber is headed back to school. Morehouse College to be exact.

Webber will be teaching Morehouse College and Coursera's online class on activism in sports and culture. Michael Lee of the Washington Post reported Webber had originally developed his curriculum for another historically black college, but ultimately found a comfort in Morehouse's vision.

The former “Fab Five” legend was raised by a mother who taught in the Detroit school system. Now, he himself will use sports as a backdrop for education, noting athletes and people of prominence have the power to influence tangible change:

“Just think of what’s going on now in the head of a little girl, with Kamala Harris as vice president. There is a change happening,” Chris Webber said, via Lee. “In sports, that change had to happen on different levels to inspire the LeBrons and the others. These guys have access to President Obama’s number. They have access to other people and community leaders to see how to do it the right way. Not to grandstand, but to do what’s right.”

Chris Webber gave an impassioned speech after the Milwaukee Bucks decided to boycott a playoff game against the Orlando Magic following the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He lauded the players for their advocacy, citing it as the kind of important action that speaks volumes and has cultural resonance.

The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame finalist will have the opportunity to share his message with future generations, adding he hopes to be a “bridge” for those generations.
