The L.A Clippers are in the process of retooling their franchise as they move on the from the Lob City era and transition into a new one. That new era began with the drafting of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who the Clippers look at as the future of the franchise.

According to ESPN and Nice Kicks' Nick DePaula, Gilgeous-Alexander has agreed to a multi-year footwear & apparel endorsement deal with Nike.

Gilgeous-Alexander was drafted with the 11th overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets and was traded to the LA Clippers for Miles Bridges, who was selected with the 12th overall pick, and a future draft pick. The point guard out of Kentucky worked out for the Clippers and no one else, immediately knowing that was where he wanted to be following dinner and conversations with coach Doc Rivers, President Lawrence Frank, and consultant Jerry West.

“I’m really excited,” Gilgeous-Alexander told ClutchPoints after the draft. “I’m a competitor, and I love to win. LA has a couple of really good pieces right now in place, and I think me and Jerome stepping in right away will make them better and hopefully we get to the playoffs to contend. I’m a competitor and I love to compete and win.”

Gilgeous-Alexander enters a team with a number of guards likely ahead of him on the depth chart, but there's no question he's the player they'll be focusing on for years to come.

In his lone season with the Wildcats, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 14.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.6 steals per game on 48.5 percent shooting from the field. After coming off the bench to begin the year, he started the final 22 games of the year averaging 16.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.2 steals on 48.6 percent shooting.

Over the last couple of days, DePaula had been reporting other signings like Grizzlies rookie Jaren Jackson agreeing to a deal with Nike as well as Hornets rookie Miles Bridges agreeing to a deal with Nike.
