Alabama Crimson Tide receiver DeVonta Smith made history on Tuesday evening, becoming the first at his position to win the Heisman since Desmond Howard.

The news was announced all over God's green Earth, but for the sake of showing proof of such fun, here's a tweet!

DeVonta Smith Heisman History

Desmond Howard won his Heisman Trophy all the way back in 1991. That means, for a good portion of our demographic reading this specific post, you weren't even alive. For those who were, we're getting up there in age, buddy.

For context as to why this is special: since 2000, only a handful of receivers even finished in the top five of Heisman voting, making it particularly special that Alabama Crimson Tide receiver DeVonta Smith won the award.

Smith did his part in helping Alabama this season, snagging 20 of the program's 37 receiving touchdowns. For those unaware how math works, that is just a whole bunch. As the time of this writing, he also has 1,641 receiving yards, which is roughly double more than the next closet dude on the roster.

Basically, in a sport that values quarterbacks above all else, and one that hasn't witnessed such highlights since Desmond Howard won the award so many years ago, DeVonta Smith winning the Heisman shouldn't come as a shock.
