EternalEnvy retires from competitive Dota 2, ending a nearly-decade-long career in the competitive MOBA game.

Canadian pro Dota 2 player Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao retires from competitive Dota 2, the pro player announced yesterday. The announcement was made through a simple tweet, marking a soft end to his career. Up to this point, “EE-sama” has been on a hiatus, taking a break from the pro tournament circuits when his stack SADBOYS failed to find any success in last year's pro circuit. EternalEnvy has been on hiatus since October last year, focusing instead on streaming and content creation in the meantime.

EternalEnvy was famous for his very risky and aggressive play style, which resulted in worthwhile payoffs as often as disastrous results. Envy was often included in power fantasy rosters, and was part of “Superteams” like his time with Puppey, Kuroky, s4, and zai in Team Secret back in 2015. However, in spite of the high-profile teams that EternalEnvy has been part of, he never reached the pinnacle of competitive Dota 2, as the veteran player never won The International ever.

It is now unknown what EternalEnvy will be focusing on now that he is a retired pro player. He has had support roles in terms before, having served as a coach once in his career. Perhaps he could also make appearances in tournaments as an analyst, lending his experience and insight to the panels he'd be joining. Or he could just as well end his competitive streak and focus more on entertaining his fans on his different channels. EternalEnvy is one of the most colorful characters in Dota 2, and we can see a successful career ahead of him if ever he decides to take his career into that direction.
