A new world boss has appeared, bringing in new rewards and materials. But there, too, are a whole bunch of new mechanics players will have to learn if they want to beat this boss. Genshin Impact’s Version 1.5 introduced the Cryo Hypostasis, which is now one of the four Elemental Hypostases present in the open-world. This boss isn’t too hard to defeat, but certain attacks are better off avoided than tanked to ensure easy sailing.

How to Prepare for the Cryo Hypostasis Boss Fight

You don’t need specific characters for this fight. Any would do, but certain characters are really helpful to make things easier. Just make sure your main source of damage isn’t Cryo.

If you’re planning to farm this boss, make sure to obtain the free Diona from one of the current events. Her Cryo-resistant shield lets you faceroll this boss without needing much effort.

Characters specializing in Melt and Superconductor work especially well for this fight, since these reactions provide a significant boost to your damage. When the boss is in its vulnerable state, it becomes infused with Cryo. High damaging Melts are super effective in chunking off the boss’s large HP pool during this phase. The same thing goes for Physical damage carries who benefit greatly from the Superconductor status, which reduces enemy Physical RES by a huge amount.

Learning the Two States of the Boss Fight

During most of the fight, the Hypostasis will alternate between its attacking state and vulnerable state. During its attacking state, it will perform one of four different attacks. You should be avoiding these at all times. Then, once it finishes its attack, it will go into its vulnerable state for a short duration. This is the best time to attack and deal as much damage as possible.

This Hypostasis has four different attacks that you want to avoid. The first one is the ‘wheel attack’, in which the Hypostasis turns into a wheel and charges towards the player. It repeats this up to three times or until it veers too far from the arena. Dodging this is a little bit tricky the first time since there is a bit of timing required. Thankfully, this attack is not too dangerous to worry about.

Its second attack is the ‘trailing spikes.’ The boss stays on the surface while continuously deploying spikes that trail the current position of the player. This attack is relatively easy to avoid, but it punishes players who greedily rush to the middle to attack the Hypostasis.

Its third attack is when it raises up and starts shooting the player with homing ice spears. This attack is the easiest to avoid, as you only need to keep moving for a short while.
Its fourth and last attack is the ‘nova’, in which the Hypostasis raises up a bit and assumes a horizontal circular formation, blasting ice underneath it, with increasing size for every blast up to a few times. This is the attack that you have to avoid at all costs since it deals a ton of damage and can easily kill your characters.

How to Beat the Cryo Hypostasis in its ‘Revival State'

Once the Hypostasis’ HP reaches a certain threshold, it will go into its ‘revival state’, where you have to interact with a mechanic to finally beat the boss. Failing to do so will heal the boss’s HP, requiring you to deal damage again to put it into its revival state. In this phase, the boss will deploy large ice crystals which are needed to be attacked with a charged attack. Doing so knocks them towards the boss and depleting its shield. However, the boss can also shoot homing spears towards your character. So, be wary of this when going for those charged attacks. When done enough times, the boss’s shield gets depleted and goes into its vulnerable state. From here on, you can finally end the boss.

The Cryo Hypostasis poses a bit of a challenge for players new to boss mechanics in Genshin Impact. However, it's a totally easy fight for experienced players and those playing for a long time. If you’re planning to pull for Eula on the next banner, make sure to farm this boss as it drops the important Ascension materials needed to max out Eula in the future.
