The 2026 Memorial Tournament is underway at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. Reigning champion Scottie Scheffler begins his day at 1:30 ET looking to repeat as champion.

As things stand right now, early on Thursday, Wyndham Clark leads at -6 through 15 holes. Nick Taylor has the clubhouse lead at -4. At the time of writing, Taylor's score is tied with J.J. Spaun and Tommy Fleetwood. Justin Rose and Sam Burns are not far off at -3.

Jordan Spieth, someone looking for a massive victory, had a respectable opening round. He finished with a 71 thanks to a massive putt that allowed him to be under par. On the Par-4 6th hole, Spieth had a 62-foot birdie putt that he actually putted with his back to the flag.

Sinking a putt like that is legendary stuff. That could be the kind of momentum Spieth needed to give himself a chance in a massive tournament.

Spieth also birdied the Par-5 11th. The only true mistake of the day was on the Par-3 16th, where he bogeyed for the only time on Thursday.

Spieth's last win came in 2022 at the RBC Heritage. Before that, it was in 2021 at the Valero Texas Open. The last time Spieth was dominant was in 2017. His play as of late is getting closer to being at the level he once had, but too many mistakes haunt him. If the former major winner can keep the mistakes to a minimum and have a mostly clean tournament, that would be huge heading into the U.S. Open in two weeks.
