Atlanta Hawks veteran Vince Carter just recently concluded his 21st season in the league. Nonetheless, the eight-time All-Star has already confirmed his intention to return next season, and just recently, Atlanta Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk indicated that the team are open to signing Carter to an extension.

The 43-year-old GM had nothing but good things to say about Carter.

“I didn’t know Vince going into this season,” Schlenk said, via Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We had heard all the stuff that he was a great mentor and a great guy in the locker room. I’ve got to tell you, he really was unbelievable with our young guys. He’s been in the league for 21 years now. When you have guy who’s been at the top of the league to go to being a role player/mentor, you just don’t see that often. To have their ego stay in check. He fully embraces it. He was really big for us.”

Schlenk then went on to say that while there are still a lot of other things they will need to iron out within the team, it is still very much possible that Carter re-signs with the Hawks this summer.

“We have to see how everything plays out this summer but I certainly wouldn’t have a problem if he was a member of the Hawks either,” he stated.

Carter signed with Atlanta last summer under a one-year minimum contract, and this is likely what he will be looking at again next season if all things pan out with the Hawks.
