Atlanta Hawks rookie point guard Trae Young went off Sunday evening against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In 38 minutes of action, Young scored a whopping 35 points on 13-of-23 shooting from the field, 6-of-14 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line to help the Hawks defeat the Cavs on the road by a final score of 133-111. Atlanta is now 1-2 on the young season.

Along with his 33 points, Trae Young also dished out 11 assists, showing full command of the Hawks' offense from start to finish. Since 2000, only two other rookies have posted at least 35 points and 10 assists in a game. Who are the two players you ask? They are none other than Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, via Ben Golliver of Sports Illustrated.

There were a lot of questions surrounding Trae Young back in June during the NBA Draft. People had doubts about his ability to score in the NBA since he's only 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds. He also takes a lot of questionable shots, and some teams weren't sold on the Stephen Curry comparisons he received when he was playing at Oklahoma.

This was a big statement game for Trae Young. Yes, the Cavs are not a good team, but Young was being guarded by Cleveland rookie point guard Collin Sexton, who is a rugged defender and has good size. Other than Sexton, George Hill, another solid defender, had his time against Young. Hopefully, this was a stepping-stone game for Young and he takes off from here for the Hawks.
