Despite the fact that the Miami Heat have been doing what they can to try and pry Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets, the reality is that they appear to be at a bit of an impasse right now. The deal isn't exactly dead, but it seems that Pat Riley and his front office must do better in terms of trying to meet the Nets' lofty demands for their superstar.

Another player that has now emerged on the radar for the Heat is Montrezl Harrell. The former Sixth Man of the Year winner is currently without a team after seeing out his contract with the Charlotte Hornets last season, and according to an anonymous Eastern Conference executive, Harrell could be taking his talents to South Beach in the near future:

“Miami would be one team to look out for,” the unnamed source told Ryan Aston of heavy.com. “Especially if they make a big move and they have a lot of roster holes that need to be filled on the cheap late in the summer,” the exec said. “They need another big guy either way. He could be sitting there. It depends on if the case goes away or what.”

Miami's chase for Harrell seems to hinge on a “big move” that could be on the horizon. If the Heat succeed in landing Kevin Durant, then they're likely going to part ways with a handful of players in the deal. Harrell could emerge as an option for them, especially if the 28-year-old is willing to sign on a discount.

Harrell is currently facing felony drug charges after authorities found three pounds of marijuana inside his vehicle during a traffic stop.
