It took 15 years for another Stockton to play for the Utah Jazz, but the sight of David Stockton, son of legendary Utah Jazz point guard John Stockton, on the floor wearing Jazz threads surely made plenty of the team’s fans giddy. David saw his very first minutes as a Jazz man on Sunday during the dying minutes the Jazz’s blowout 110-91 win against the Golden State Warriors on the road.

With three minutes remaining in the contest, Jazz head coach Quin Snyder called on Stockton to replace Dante Exum on the court. Stockton’s debut came 34 years after his father played the first game of his Hall of Fame career in 1984. In three minutes of action, Stockton scored two points on 2-for-2 shooting from the free throw line to go with a turnover and a personal foul. He did not register any other stat for the game, though it would have been nice for hoops fans to see a Stockton dish out an assist or make a steal in 2018.

Stockton, 26, signed a 10-day contract with the Jazz on Mar. 17, which means that the Warriors game could be his last for the season unless Utah inks him to another 10-day deal or sign him for the rest of the season or if another team picks him up off the waivers.

In any case, David Stockton accomplished his goal of following in the footsteps of his dad. Apart from being a Jazz, David also played for the same college team as John at Gonzaga.

David went undrafted in 2014, but played three games for the Sacramento Kings in the 2014-15 campaign. So far in his NBA journey, he has 10 points, two rebounds, two steals, and nine assists.

David is only 1,500 games, 1,9699 points, 3,263 steals, and 15,797 assists short of tying his father’s NBA career totals.
