The New York Jets have made it known that they are interested in retaining Robby Anderson, but the feelings haven't been mutual. Despite Anderson's interest in testing the open market, New York is pushing to re-sign Anderson.

With free agency just a couple of weeks away, the Jets are working against the clock to prevent Anderson from hitting free agency. The legal tampering period begins on March 16, giving New York just 11 days to convince Anderson to remain in New York.

Albeit, Anderson has been adamant about not taking a hometown discount with the Jets. Therefore, it's going to be tough for New York to steer him away from entering free agency.

In today's NFL, teams are beginning to search for vertical options in the passing game. Given that, Anderson's price could exceed $10 million per season. As a result, the Jets could choose to move on from Anderson due to being against paying him what other teams will.

This past season, Anderson recorded 52 receptions for 779 yards and five touchdowns. Seeing that Sam Darnold missed a few games due to mono, those numbers are a bit more enticing for teams looking for a big-play wideout.

Since Adam Gase arrived last offseason, it seems there's a common theme of not wanting to pay players their market price on offense. When he became head coach, there were reports that Gase was against the team signing Le'Veon Bell in free agency.

Even though the Jets want Anderson back, they'd like it to come in the form of a team-friendly deal. On the other hand, Anderson understands that his skillset could garner interest from teams willing to pay him his worth. Nevertheless, both sides will probably be communicating as free agency looms.
