Former NBA shooting guard JR Smith recently decided to go back to school, and has been sharing updates on his education via Twitter.

A former Sixth Man of the Year and an NBA champion with the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2016, Smith decided to attend North Carolina A&T to play collegiate golf, but he says he's also there to learn.

College is challenging enough for young people fresh out of high school, so it's not hard to imagine how difficult the learning curve has been for the 35-year-old Smith. Even still, he says he's going to keep grinding.

Smith was part of one of the last NBA draft classes (2004) to be eligable for the league straight out of high school. Now that his 16-year pro career has wrapped up, it's thrilling to see him not only explore other sports but take an interest in other avenues of life as well.

Smith has often been falsely characterized as an airhead (his unawareness of the score in the final seconds of Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals might unfortunately be the signature play of his career), but his tweets are revealing him to be a thoughtful and determined soul. It shouldn't have taken this life-shift for the public to realize this, though. No one makes it to the NBA and sticks around for 16 seasons without a strong work ethic and drive to succeed.
