Kawhi Leonard has started this season on fire.

In the San Antonio Spurs‘ first four games, the 25-year-old is averaging 28.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 4.0 steals in 31.7 minutes per game. Many have attributed his strong performance so far because of working out with Los Angeles Lakers‘ legend Kobe Bryant during the offseason.

But Leonard denied all the speculations about practicing with Bryant in the summer and also made it clear that he understands the former MVP's need for personal space especially after playing 20 years in the league, per Matt Moore of CBS Sports.

“I didn’t work out with Kobe. I don’t know where that came from. I wish I could have.”

“He’s retired, so I just wanted to give him some personal space. Maybe next summer.”

The Black Mamba is currently spending time with his family while also looking into a business venture with his group. He was last seen making a public appearance while watching the WNBA Finals together with his pregnant wife and two children.

For Leonard, he may not have worked out with the 18-time All-Star yet but his offensive game this season has already drawn a bit of semblance to Bryant's. If he'll indeed get a chance to learn from him next summer, it will be interesting to see how much more his game can improve with all the knowledge he can get from Bryant.

The Spurs currently have a 4-0 record after their win against the Miami Heat on Sunday. They will put their unblemished record on the line once again on Tuesday when they host the Utah Jazz.
