Khabib Nurmagomedov was in the corner of Islam Makhachev at UFC Vegas 49 and was coaching him through his dominant victory. So far he has been excellent as a coach and has been very happy with his people.

Islam Makhachev beat Bobby Green by TKO in the first round at UFC Vegas 49. Coach Khabib Nurmagomedov was asked by the promotion about his reaction to the win after the event.

“This is what we expect, you know? Like, finish him, first round like Islam said [at the] weigh-in. ‘It’s not gonna be five rounds, it’s gonna be two or one round,’ because of a lot of things. Amateur career, professional career, UFC career, all win streaks. About his age, about how he’s hungry. Everything comes together. Islam is on a different level right now. Same win streak like Charles Oliveira. They have to make this fight. If Charles beats Justin Gaethje, it’s gonna be an amazing fight. It’s gonna be a huge fight for UFC.”

Islam Makhachev is currently expected to be the next opponent for the winner of Charles Oliveira vs Justin Gaethje. He has made it clear he wants the next title shot in the UFC's lightweight division despite Conor McGregor hoping to leapfrog him.

It will be interesting to see if Khabib Nurmagomedov is right and Islam Makhachev is given the winner of the next UFC lightweight title shot. He has opened as a big favorite over Charles Oliveira after his dominant win at UFC Vegas 49 over Bobby Green this past weekend.
