The New York Knicks have gone all out in their efforts to recruit Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant. After putting up a not-so-discreet billboard near Madison Square Garden, it has been discovered that the Knicks also intend to use R&B singer Ashanti as another element in their quest to sign the former MVP next summer.

The Knicks are slated to host the Warriors on Friday night, and as it turns out, Ashanti was apparently handpicked by the team as a play on Durant. The back-to-back Finals MVP is a self-confessed fan of the Grammy-award winning R&B artist, and the Knicks are obviously hoping that this gets them on the good graces of Durant.

Unfortunately for the franchise, Durant was not very impressed with their recruitment billboard, so the Ashanti stunt — although quite impressive in a shrewd way — should do little to influence Durant's decision this summer. That is unless Ashanti performs her hit song Movies, which has evidently had quite an effect on Durant.

Durant currently has a player option on his deal for next season which means that he will effectively enter free agency next summer. However, many believe that he has no intentions of leaving the Warriors and will eventually sign another extension.

Nevertheless, you can't fault the Knicks for trying. With a relatively substantial cap space available, they are expected to be one of the most active teams in next summer's free agency frenzy. The team has set their sights on Durant, and until pen is put to paper, you better believe that the Knicks will be pulling all the stops just to get him on board.
