The New York Knicks were one of the first teams to reach out to the Phoenix Suns inquiring about point guard Eric Bledsoe. The latter reportedly asked for rookie point guard Frank Ntilikina and center Willy Hernangomez in return, according to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders.

Given that this trade hasn't consolidated by now, it can only mean that the Knicks are holding their No. 8 overall selection in very high regard and are banking on him becoming the point guard of the future, despite engaging in talks for Bledsoe.

The latter is only a 27-year-old point guard, with a lot of gas left in the tank, but a long list of injuries throughout his young career.

The Alabama native had a career-year last season, posting 21.1 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds for the 24-win Suns. He had requested a trade dating back to last season after head coach Earl Watson took the executive call of sitting out his veterans for the remainder of the season, hoping to develop the young pieces on the roster.

Bledsoe is hoping to play for a contender after suffering two 40-plus-point losses in the first week of the season. Suns general manager Ryan McDonough believes Bledsoe has played his last game in a Suns' jersey and has received inquiries from the Milwaukee Bucks, the L.A. Clippers, the Denver Nuggets, and the Knicks.
