The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to weather the storm, with star big man Anthony Davis still out due to a knee injury. The Lakers have been rocky all season, forcing head coach Frank Vogel to try to figure out ways to optimize the roster.

The return of Davis will definitely help, though he was having a mediocre campaign so far, at least by his high standards. While his numbers might look gaudy, his overall presence hasn't really pushed the Lakers to the level they want to be at. But Vogel already has a plan when AD makes his way back to the floor (via Heavy):

“Well, I think you’re going to see Anthony playing a lot at the five and, when Anthony’s out, we have the lineups that we’ve been playing right now with ‘Bron basically playing point center. It’s a direction that I think we’re going to land with this group towards the second half of the season and one we’re seeing obvious benefits for right now that we feel like we’re gonna be even more enhanced when Anthony comes back.”

Vogel's plan to play more small ball with Davis at center sure sounds good, but it will also directly affect LeBron James, who has been quite impressive in his moonlighting at the 5-spot. Prior to their game against the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, the Lakers were winners of four of their last five games with LeBron in the middle — and it looks like The King has been enjoying it.

It remains unclear when Davis will return exactly for the Lakers, but perhaps LeBron wants his running mate to bide his time.
