When the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans in the summer of 2019, LeBron James blessed him with his No. 23 jersey.

However, James and Davis missed the deadline to switch their jerseys. So, the Lakers big man wore No. 3 and was planning to don No. 23 this upcoming season. James, meanwhile, would have switched to No. 6, the number he wore with the Miami Heat.

It looks like Davis has had a change of heart, though, on the number switch. According to Harrison Faigen of SB Nation, the Lakers superstar big man will stick with No. 3, which means James will retain No. 23.

However, it seems No. 3 grew on Davis, as according to a team spokesperson, he will not be switching jersey numbers this year. He will stick with the only number he’s worn for the purple and gold — and the number he wore in high school — as he starts his new, five-year contract in Los Angeles.

The Lakers won the championship in Anthony Davis' first season with the team, so he and LeBron James might as well keep things the way they are. Los Angeles defeated the Miami Heat in six games inside the NBA bubble at Walt Disney World.

Davis recently signed a five-year contract with the Lakers in unrestricted free agency. His new deal came days after LeBron agreed to an extension with the Purple and Gold.

After trading for Dennis Schroder and signing Marc Gasol, Wesley Matthews and Montrezl Harrell, the Lakers could very well repeat as champions this upcoming season.
