Before agreeing to a two-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, Danny Green was one of the most sought-after names in free agency. Ultimately, the three-time NBA champ decided to remain with the Sixers. As it turns out, however, Green almost turned his back on Philly to head back to LA with the Lakers.

According to Green himself, Dwight Howard did his best to try and convince him to follow him to Hollywood. Both players were part of the Lakers' 2020 title run, and they both moved to Philly last summer. Howard thought it would be a good idea to continue this trend so he attempted to recruit Green to LA with him (h/t Rich Hofmann of The Athletic):

Clearly, though, it wasn't only Howard and the Lakers who were interested in the services of Danny Green. At least six other teams also joined the race to sign the 34-year-old veteran, which just proves how valuable Green is for his team. You also have to note that some of the squads linked to Green were top contenders for next season's title.

In the end, the Sixers prevailed as they successfully negotiated a new deal with the sharp-shooting swingman. It cost them $20 million, which appears to be money well spent for a player of Danny Green's caliber.

As mentioned in the above tweet, money was a significant factor in Green's decision to re-sign with the Sixers. For their part, the Lakers were likely unwilling to match Philly's offer, which, unfortunately for him, placed Dwight Howard at a huge disadvantage in his negotiations with Green.
