The Los Angeles Lakers are officially ushering in a new era in their franchise now that they have named Darvin Ham as their new head coach. It also seems like LA is taking all the necessary steps to put Ham in the best position to succeed. This starts with giving him as much autonomy as he needs.

According to Bill Oram of The Athletic, the Lakers are allowing Ham to make his own decisions when it comes to picking his coaching staff:

Sources said Ham has been assured he will have autonomy to hire his coaching staff.

I'm not sure if the Lakers' front office gave ex-coach Frank Vogel this much breathing room, but this is definitely a good sign for Darvin Ham. After a rather meticulous hiring process, LA decided to choose Ham over all the other candidates that were in contention for the high-profile job. This speaks volumes of how impressed they were by the 48-year-old and how much trust they have now endowed on him for the season ahead.

With this bit of news, the Ham era appears to be off to an excellent start, and Lakers fans are just hoping that it remains the same the rest of the way.
