The days in a Los Angeles Lakers jersey are likely counted for third-year forward Julius Randle.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the organization will now be faced with a major decision of what to do with the former Kentucky Wildcat, who finds himself the clear loser of a three-way battle with forwards Larry Nance Jr. and Kyle Kuzma.

“One player whose future is very unlikely to continue with the Lakers is Julius Randle, their third year forward,” said Wojnarowski prior to a Lakers loss to the Boston Celtics Wednesday (via CBS). “Rob Pelinka, their general manager, and Magic Johnson, their president, will be faced with this question. Do they look to trade Randle between now and the February trade deadline and get back potentially a first-round draft pick for him, or do they roll the dice and wait until summer when he's a restricted free agent.”

Randle battled for the starting power forward spot entering camp, and despite showing flashes of brilliance, found himself the odd man out, as Nance was named the starter, and Kuzma filled in for him after a hand fractured suffered last week.

The 6-foot-9 forward has been working on his game every offseason, but his defense and long-range shooting haven't progressed enough to warrant Luke Walton's confidence as an everyday nod in purple-and-gold. While still boasting a good all-around package, Randle has been phased by better shooting forwards like the rookie Kuzma, and players with better intangibles and instincts around the ball, like Nance.

The Lakers will likely have to explore a trade prior to the deadline before the frustration becomes more than they're willing to handle with this young roster.
