Los Angeles Lakers icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar believes people are taking LeBron James for granted.

The greatest scorer in NBA history isn't referring to James' play on the court, though.

Abdul-Jabbar, a civil rights legend, said that the current Lakers superstar is “setting the example for generations to come” in terms of his off the court work with social justice issues and helping out fellow African Americans.

“People are worried about the wrong thing; what LeBron James is doing off the court far outweighs what he is doing on the court,” Kareem Abdul-Jabbar told Ethan Thomas of Basketball News.

“LeBron is standing on all of our shoulders. He’s standing on Jackie Robinson’s shoulders. He’s standing on Jesse Owens’ shoulders. He has a conscience and a heart, and he is setting the example for generations to come.”

This is a very powerful statement from KAJ. Everyone already knows LeBron James is going to go down as one of the best — if not the best — players in NBA history.

However, the Lakers legend wants people to understand that James has had a bigger impact on African Americans off the basketball court than on it. LeBron recently started the “More Than A Vote” movement to combat voter suppression.

LeBron's biggest achievement was arguably the I PROMISE School he helped open in 2018 in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

All in all, James' legacy on the basketball court is the stuff of legend. However, LeBron may be an even bigger GOAT off the court, which says a lot when you consider he is the only player in NBA history to rank top 10 all-time in points and assists.
