LeBron James is going to wear the No. 23 for the Los Angeles Lakers, the same figure he donned with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he’ll be taking No. 6 whenever the Lakers shift to Allen Iverson’s most hated part of being a professional: practice.

This bit of detail about the newest chapter in James’ illustrious career has been shared by no other than Darren Rovell of ESPN.

James wore No. 6 during his time in South Beach, so it’s probably just a decision to pay homage to his Miami Heat days. After all, it was with the Heat that he won two of his three NBA titles. James reverted to his old No. 23 when he went back to Cleveland in 2014.

Earlier this summer, LeBron James sent shockwaves across the NBA universe when it was revealed that he’s agreed to a huge four-year deal with the Lakers worth a staggering $153.3 million. James is now seen as the messiah of a proud franchise that has been wallowing in mediocrity for the past few seasons. The Lakers haven’t had a winning record since 2012-13, which was also the last time they reached the playoffs. With James in tow, the Lakers have every reason to believe they are at least going to make a return to the postseason.

According to Basketball-Reference, there have been 14 players before James who wore the No. 23 Lakers uniform, including hoops luminaries like Von Wafer and Ed Kalafat.
