LeBron James has never had a shortage of critics throughout his career. Right now, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is facing the wrath of a high-profile Republican author, commentator, and activist in Candace Owens.
In a recent interview on the Full Send podcast, Owens, who is also known to be a devoted Donald Trump supporter, went on an all-out attack on LeBron. The 32-year-old talk show host decided to take aim at James' intellect level, which according to her, isn't at all impressive:
“LeBron never came after me,” Owens said (h/t Peter Dewey of Lakers Daily). “I actually usually go after LeBron because I think it’s important for him with the platform that he has — and I think that, to be clear, LeBron is a well-meaning person. I don’t think LeBron means to do bad. I just don’t think he’s that smart. I really do. I think LeBron James is low IQ.”
Owens went on to belabor her point against the Lakers star. Shed heaped praise on LeBron as a basketball player, but when it comes to matters outside the hardwood floor, Owens clearly believes that James should just keep his mouth shut:
“I’ve heard him speak about issues, and he just is so wrong, but I think he carries with him an arrogance which isn’t hard when you’re being called a king,” Owens said. “Right? And he is an incredible talent. There is no doubt about that. He’s an incredible talent. It’s very hard to level yourself and to say, ‘Okay, I can be really talented but also not be educated on something.’ Right? And if you are not educated about something, you shouldn’t speak on it. I try to do very good about that. If I don’t know something, I try to listen.
“I would rather him be quiet than tell his people that follow him a lie. … He needs to do the work of actually becoming educated about these issues, and it’s not hard. It really isn’t hard to actually look up data and to look up the facts.”
Talk about staunch criticism, right?
As Owens claims, LeBron has never come after her in any way. This is the very reason why it's interesting to find out exactly what triggered this attack from Owens. She pretty much called James stupid without actually saying it.
For his part, LeBron has gotten used to all the hate by now. This definitely isn't the first time he's been on the receiving end of a scathing assault so he probably isn't even going to give Owens the time of day here.
