When the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards, people asked questions about how the mercurial point guard will fit alongside superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. For them to mesh and make it work, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has a massive challenge for the new big three in an interview by The Athletic.

Via Bill Oram:

There’s a level of sacrifice required to make three superstars fit together. The Lakers will be a dynamic fast-breaking team that is capable of playing through LeBron James, Anthony Davis or Russell Westbrook.

In recent years, one player who is part of the LeBron James big three will always need to take a back seat in terms of offense. Vogel is right that they need to sacrifice and put their egos to rest for them to succeed.

During LeBron's stint with the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers, he was a part of the so-called big three.

LeBron and the guards in Dwyane Wade and Kyrie Irving continue to blaze the league while posting career-high numbers while the ones who sacrificed the most were Chris Bosh and Kevin Love as they saw a significant drop in their numbers.

That is the price players need to pay to win an NBA championship.

Fans are certainly excited to see how the Lakers will look next season with a lot of new pieces around them.

The Lakers will try to regain the winning formula they used when they won the NBA title in 2020, which is pushing the tempo and playing at a fast pace. They have Westbrook, who is one of the best players in transition, paired with the savvy passing of James and the leaping ability of Davis.

The Lakers wouldn't have made a deal for Westbrook if they didn't think they could integrate him into the offense. Now, though, they have to prove they can make the new marriage work.
