Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will miss his team's matchup vs. the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night due to knee soreness, Frank Vogel revealed in his pre-game press conference.

LeBron has been listed as questionable for nearly every game since he returned on Feb. 5 from a five-game absence due to knee swelling/soreness. He's played in all 10 contests since then, averaging 30.6 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 5.7 assists. In his most recent outing, he dropped 56 points on the Golden State Warriors — tied for the highest single-game total in the NBA this season. The Lakers are looking to build off the much-needed win over the Warriors.

“LeBron is out tonight,” Vogel said as he began his presser. “He typically has soreness in his knee a day after a game that subsides by the next game. When we got here to San Antonio, the soreness was still significant enough where we have to hold him out.”

The Lakers (28-35) have lost 10 of their last 14 games.

Vogel said the Lakers are “hopeful” that LeBron will play on Wednesday against the Houston Rockets. He said the “heavy load” LeBron has carried throughout this season — often playing center, at least 36 minutes, and without Anthony Davis — is why the Lakers continue to list him as questionable.

A few weeks back, LeBron admitted that his knee was a “total wreck” when he woke up with swelling on Jan. 27 and would only heal with rest in the offseason. He has thwarted any speculation that he might shut it down for the season, as well as any idea that his knee isn't bothering him.
