John Madden is undoubtedly one of the most iconic figures in sports. While the younger generation have probably only heard his name on the popular video game franchise, the fact of the matter is he's the face of the football game for a reason.

Moreover, he is revered as one of the greatest coaches in the sport, having led the Oakland Raiders to the Super Bowl in 1976 all while never finishing a season with a losing record with the franchise.

LeBron James is a huge football fan himself, having tried football in his high school days before taking on the pro route in basketball. With that said, he knows how important Madden was to the growth of the sport. In fact, it's likely he was inspired by the NFL legend as well.

The rest of the sports world is mourning the passing of the NFL great, with several players, team owners, journalists and fans taking to social media their disbelief upon learning the saddening passing of John Madden.
