Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James recently went public with his incessant desire to carry on with the current season amidst reports claiming that certain NBA executives and agents are pushing to have the campaign cancelled altogether.

Lakers legend and former team president Magic Johnson weighed in on the matter. According to the Hall of Famer, he understands where LeBron is coming from here:

“LeBron and the Lakers are going for something special,” Johnson said, via Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times. “The (Los Angeles) Clippers are going for something special. Milwaukee is going for something special. You know those guys are going to come to play. Their egos are on the line. The championship is on the line.”

Johnson believes it would be a better idea to play in empty arenas as opposed to completely voiding the 2019-20 season. He believes that while it will be a totally different experience, James and the rest of the Lakers and NBA should be able to cope.

Magic added that the guys on the bench will play a pivotal role if and when this happens:

“The guys sitting on the bench have to be jumping up, hollering and screaming and giving them some juice, and they'll do that,” he added. “Those guys sitting on that bench are going to be more important than they have ever been before if there are no fans.”

It isn't an ideal situation to play behind closed doors, and it will feel unusually eerie — for both the players and the supporters watching the broadcast. Then again, this is a way better alternative as opposed to not having the rest of the season played out.
