Magic Johnson knows a thing or two about winning with the Lakers. The five-time NBA champion and three-time MVP had an unprecedented run with the purple and gold. Now, Magic Johnson has taken an advisory role, often sharing his thoughts on the current state of affairs in LA.

Most recently, Johnson sounded off on the Lakers' relationship with point guard Russell Westbrook and what the team must do to make things work:

“Talk to him,” Johnson told David Aldridge of The Athletic. “Whatever happened (this season), how can you make it better with Russell? … Take him out, take him to dinner or sit him down. How can this thing be better? ‘Cause if he’s going to be there, it’s got to be better.”

The Lakers are also in search for a new head coach. A new regime could mean new ideas for the roster, which have led many to speculate trades involving Westbrook even during the regular season. However, new reports suggest that the Lakers may be searching for a coach that is comfortable with retaining Westbrook and making it work despite the initial struggles.

Johnson also addressed the trade in his interview, claiming the return wouldn't make letting Westbrook go worth it.

It certainly seems that those around the team are confident that the Lakers can meet the initial expectations of the Lebron James-Anthony Davis-Westbrook trio if things are done properly. Of course, with a head coach vacancy which still needs to be filled, the Lakers have some time before they will know for sure.
