After Boston Celtics star point guard Kyrie Irving revealed to reporters that he called former Cavs teammate and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James to apologize for how he acted during his younger days in Cleveland, some began to speculate if Irving would consider signing with the Lakers in the summer and reunite with James.

Irving can become an unrestricted free agent after this season ends if he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Celtics, something “Uncle Drew” will do since he can make more money on the open market.

LeBron is in need of another superstar by his side in Los Angeles, but barring something unforeseen happening, don't count on Irving and James playing together again.

It was more about Kyrie Irving wanting something different. It was about getting a bigger platform, an opportunity to challenge his own greatness and be able to lead his own team — just as he's doing in Boston.

“I don't think there's any likelihood that would happen,” the same source told cleveland.com. “Nothing precludes it from happening other than it's not what Kyrie would prefer. Not because he doesn't like LeBron. They didn't have personal malice. But it's because he likes being ‘the man' more. I don't think he wants to be viewed as following LeBron again to win.”

Irving and James were a lethal duo together in Cleveland. The two stars went to three-straight Finals with the Cavs and won it all in 2016 over the Golden State Warriors, becoming the first team in NBA history to erase a 3-1 series deficit to win the championship.

Irving, however, shocked the NBA world in the summer of 2017 when he requested a trade from Cleveland. The guard reportedly didn't want to play with James anymore and live under his shadow.
