The NBA has revealed the “City Edition” jerseys for all of its teams, and the Los Angeles Angeles Lakers chose to go the classic route.

After using the Kobe Bryant inspired “Mamba Jerseys” in the playoffs last season, the Lakers turned back the clock and debuted a sky blue and white colored jersey as its City Edition jersey, and a blue dominated jersey as its Classic Edition jerseys.

The jersey was inspired by the Lakers uniforms during its early years in the league in the 1960s, so the team got one of its legends to narrate the hype video for their City Edition uniforms in Elgin Baylor.

Throughout the video, clips of the new jerseys can be seen with video of Baylor playing together with Jerry West, who was his teammate with the Lakers. With Baylor, West, and another All-Star in Gail Goodrich, the Lakers established themselves as a perennial contender during the 1960s, although they suffered multiple Finals losses to Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics, which dominated much of the decade.

While West and Goodrich would finally win a championship in the 1971-72 season together with Wilt Chamberlain, Baylor would retire without a championship as he retired early in that same season due to injuries.

Throughout his career, which was spent entirely with the Lakers, Baylor was a 10-time All-Star and a 10-time All-NBA First Team selection, averaging 27.4 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 43.1 percent from the field. Aside from his deadly scoring, Baylor was also known as one of the league’s first dunkers, to which he alluded in the video.

After honoring one of the franchise’s greatest players in Bryant last season, the Lakers have once again found a way to honor their rich history through their City Edition jerseys.
