The Detroit Lions continued to rev their motors in a free agency shopping spree on Monday.

After announcing the pending signings of defensive end Trey Flowers, wide receiver Danny Amendola, and cornerback Justin Coleman, the Lions added yet another piece to their 2019 squad by agreeing to terms with tight end Jesse James of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The terms of Detroit's deal with James have yet to be disclosed, but more news regarding the numbers on James' new contract will come forth when the NFL officially opens its free agency doors on Wednesday.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network got wind of the news first; his report was later confirmed by Adam Schefter.

The 24-year-old James spent his first four years as a pro in Pittshburgh, capping his Steeler career last season with career-high marks: 423 receiving yards and an average of 14.1 yards per reception. The Penn State product played all 16 regular-season games in each of his last three seasons in his home state. He will try to continue his surge as a hybrid tight end.

James is more known for his pass-blocking abilities, but has shown glimpses of his talent in the receiving game within the Steelers' offensive scheme. That said, he should have few problems transitioning from one big-armed quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, to another one in Matthew Stafford.

Since the departure of tight end Eric Ebron (Colts) last season, the Lions have lacked the depth at tight end to keep the passing game humming. Perhaps James is the solution head coach Matt Patricia needed to aid Detroit's ailing aerial attack.
