The biggest storyline in golf right now is the status of star Tiger Woods ahead of the 2022 Masters. Just 14 months removed from his horrific car accident, Woods is preparing to play at Augusta National, something that wasn't even thought to be possible. The 15-time major champion is currently termed as a “game-time decision”, though there seems to be optimism regarding his status for the start of the tournament on Thursday. There should be even more optimism following these comments on Woods made by a former Masters champ, as reported by Steve DiMeglio of Golfweek.

“I don’t know the right words. It’s not shocking because he’s the greatest player to ever play. You give him a couple good legs and he swings like this, but now comes the walking part of it, and I’m not a guy that’s going to guesstimate on that. I watched it today, he looked phenomenal.

“To hit it like that, now it’s just the walking part. If he can walk around here in 72 holes, he’ll contend.”

Woods took to the course with world no. 7 Justin Thomas and former Masters champion Fred Couples on Monday afternoon- and Couples was blown away.

With a large crowd behind him, Woods wowed the patrons- and Couples- who said that he looked “phenomenal.” Woods, who last played an official event in 2020, impressed with the driver while showing no visible signs of discomfort.

It's still unclear if Woods will be able to tee off at Augusta National. However, if you ask Couples, he'll not only tee off on Thursday. He'll compete, too.
