New York Mets star Javy Baez became well-known with the Chicago Cubs for his long home runs, flashy plays in the field and incredible work on the base paths. However, Baez is also prone to funks at the plate, with plenty of strikeouts to his name. The Mets are already seeing the full spectrum of Baez after they recently acquired him from the Cubs before the trade deadline.

Baez hit a home run in his first game with his new team. On Wednesday night, El Mago pulled off some magic with an incredible slide at home plate to score a run, and he later hit a clutch dinger to give the Mets a late lead over the Miami Marlins. New York ultimately won the game 5-3 to snap a three-game losing streak.

Thursday, though, was a disaster for Baez and the Mets. The star infielder struck out all five times at the plate and left a boatload of guys on base in a 4-2 loss. New York lost three out of four games to the lowly Marlins, and the lead in the NL East is down to one measly game over the Philadelphia Phillies.

This is the trade-off you get with Javy Baez. He can do a lot of things that wow you on the baseball field, but there will be some days like Thursday where he's just totally lost at the plate. While he's usually more good than bad, the bad can be really ugly.

The Mets are hoping to bounce back Friday against the Phillies in a huge series.
