The New York Mets have been without Francisco Lindor since mid-late April, as he's been dealing with a strained left calf. However, it appears he is nearing a return, as his latest update provides a possible timeline for when Lindor could be activated from the injured list.
Reports indicate that the 32-year-old shortstop is scheduled to play a minor league rehab assignment game on Tuesday, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. DiComo claims that Lindor could be activated from the IL after that game, giving him a timeline to return to the Mets of about a few days.
“Francisco Lindor (calf) is now scheduled to play in another minor league rehab game tomorrow,” reported DiComo. “It's possible he could be activated after that. It's also possible he could need a rest day, which would take him to Thursday.”
If that is the case, then the five-time All-Star could return in the current four-game series against the Chicago Cubs. There is a possibility Lindor remains out for just a tad longer, but based on the reporting, he could also return from his rehab assignment for the next series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
While the organization waits patiently for Lindor's return, the Mets are going to continue relying on Bo Bichette to play shortstop. Zack Short may also get some playing time.
The 12-year veteran has only played in 24 games so far this season, as Francisco Lindor's injury has prevented him from playing with his teammates in New York. Through 93 at-bats in 2026, Lindor has recorded 21 hits, two home runs, and five RBIs, giving him a .226 batting average and .314 OBP.
