Before the draft, in an interview with Dev In The Lab, Dybantsa boldly proclaimed that he believed that he would be the first name called in the 2026 NBA draft.
“Yeah, I actually think this is one of the best drafts in I don't even know how many years. People probably say 15, like I think we really on that. But no, I definitely want, I definitely want the number one pick.”
Dybantsa also weighed in on the discourse about how it doesn't matter which position you're drafted in, but he wants to continue his streak of being number one
“Like, people wanna say…it doesn't matter the draft pick. Yeah, you're right, it don't matter like what your draft pick as long as you get there. But I've been number one my whole life. I've been number one since I got ranked in eight grade, and I'm trying to keep that.”
In his sole season at BYU, Dybantsa established himself as one of the best college basketball players in the nation. He averaged 25 points per game across 35 appearances while shooting 51 percent from the floor. He also contributed 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest. He now joins a Wizards team eager to find themselves among the best teams in the Eastern Conference, alongside new franchise point guard Trae Young and multi-time All-Star and NBA champion Anthony Davis.
