The MLB All-Star Game will be played as a standard nine-inning event as usual, with one potential tweak. As stated in the new CBA, the game could use a home-run derby to decide the winner in lieu of extra innings.

The MLB All-Star Game has gone to extra innings 13 times previously, most recently in 2018. The new rule, labeled a “tentative agreement” in the CBA, allows teams to better manage their pitchers in the case of a tie.

The American League is looking for its ninth straight win in the game, while the National league is looking for its first All-Star Game win since 2012. Home-field advantage in the World Series is no longer determined in the All-Star Game, as has been the case since 2017.

Last year's All-Star Game in Colorado ended in a 5-2 victory for the American League. Fans will be hoping for some more offensive fireworks at this year's game.
