The San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees will continue their series. We are in the Bronx sharing our MLB odds series, making a Giants-Yankees prediction and pick while showing you how to watch.

The Yankees shut out the San Francisco Giants 5-0 on Opening Day. Amazingly, the Yankees got their first run from their high-paid player when Aaron Judge clobbered a pitch to deep right field to put the Yanks on the board. Gleyber Torres added to the fun in the third inning when he blasted a 2-run bomb to right-center field. Later in the seventh inning, DJ LeMahieu clipped an RBI single to left-center field to score Torres. Judge added an RBI single to put the final nail in the coffin.

Gerrit Cole shined by tossing six shutout innings while allowing three hits. Then, the bullpen excelled by tossing three scoreless innings while allowing one hit. Ron Mannacio tossed the final two innings and struck out three hitters. Meanwhile, Logan Webb went six innings for the Giants while allowing four earned runs on four hits and striking out 12.

The Giants will turn to Alex Cobb on the mound. Significantly, he is coming off a season where he went 7-9 with an ERA of 3.73 through 28 starts. The Yankees will turn to Clarke Schmidt. Furthermore, he is coming off a season where he went 5-5 with an ERA of 3.12 through 29 games, including three starts.

Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread

The Giants entered the season with higher expectations. Therefore, they look to compete in every scenario. But things did not go so well on opening day as the Yankees held them in check.

The Giants amassed four hits on opening day. Thus, they will look to do better. Lamonte Wade Jr. went 0 for 3 leading off, reaching base one time. However, the Giants stranded him on base, and he could not score. Michael Conforto went 1 for 4 but also struck out twice. Likewise, Wilmer Flores went 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout. Joc Pederson went 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout. Additionally, Mike Yastrzemski went 0 for 2 with two strikeouts. Even his pinch hitter J.D. Davis also went 0 for 2 with two strikeouts. Meanwhile, Thairo Estrada went 2 for 4 with a strikeout, a walk, and a stolen base. Brandon Crawford went 0 for 3. Unfortunately, the Giants struck out 16 times.

The Giants failed the move the runners they put on base. Moreover, not a single hitter produced an extra-base hit. The Giants must adjust at the plate and put themselves in a better position to score runs. Then, it might open up the offense and allow them to score their first runs.

The Giants will cover the spread if they cut the strikeouts. Ultimately, they must select their pitches better. The Giants also must not leave the runners on base. Lastly, they must avoid throwing the ball down the middle against Judge.

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

The Yankees had a near-perfect start to the season and rewarded their fans with an opening-day win. Now, they look to keep the momentum going and go 2-0 after the first two games.

LeMahieu went 1 for 4 with three strikeouts and an RBI. Meanwhile, Judge continued his boom-or-bust style by going 2 for 4 with one home run, two RBIs, and two strikeouts. Anthony Rizzo went 1 for 4 with a strikeout, while Giancarlo Stanton went 1 for 4 with a strikeout. Likewise, Josh Donaldson went 1 for 4 with a run and two strikeouts. Torres picked up where he left off last season by going 1 for 3 with two RBIs, and two runs. However, Oswaldo Cabrera went 0 for 3.

The Yankees have one of the best lineups in baseball. However, facing Webb will be a challenge, and the Yankees must figure out how to rattle him to give themselves the best chance of staying perfect to start the season.

The Yankees will cover the spread if they continue to smash the baseball. Likewise, the pitching must remain solid. The Yanks must make the plays on defense and hold their own.

Final Giants-Yankees Prediction & Pick

The Yankees are the better team. However, the Giants have the better pitcher while the Yanks are throwing out a relatively untested pitcher. Expect the Giants to score their first runs and keep the game close.

Final Giants-Yankees Prediction & Pick: San Francisco Giants: +1.5 (-170)
