Heading into the 2022 MLB season, the Boston Red Sox were projected to bolster one of the more dynamic offenses in all of baseball today. Through 27 games in the campaign, this has been far from the case for the AL East powerhouse.

The Red Sox dropped their series opener against the Chicago White Sox on Friday, as they tallied a mere two runs scored in the contest. Overall, they have mustered up at least four runs scored in just three of their last eight games played.

For Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts, he can not comprehend on just why the team is off to such a sluggish start at the plate this season.

“I really don’t know how it’s possible with this lineup that we’re playing like this,” Bogaerts said on Friday. “Every day, we [show up and] feel better than the day prior. Then when we leave the ballpark, it’s like … this is not fun.”

The Red Sox rank in the bottom half in a multitude of hitting stats, from their .228 batting average (19th) to also their 92 runs scored (24th). Out of the 11 Red Sox hitters who have logged at least 30 plate appearances so far this season, only three players currently boast an OBP over .300, including Bogaerts (.398).

The 2022 campaign is still early, but Boston may need to soon turn around its woes on offense if it aspires to make a potent run in the AL East this season.
