Retired NBA superstar Kevin Garnett is reportedly leading a group of investors interested in purchasing his former team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Garnett was selected by the Timberwolves back in 1995. He spent the formative years of his illustrious NBA career with the Twin cities franchise, earning 10 All-Star nods and the league's Most Valuable Player award during the 2003-04 season. An offseason trade in June 2007 brought Garnett to star-rich Boston Celtics, where he eventually won a title and Defensive Player of the Year.

In February 2015, Garnett returned to the Timberwolves to finish his praiseworthy NBA career, retiring at the conclusion of the 2015-16 campaign.

As reported earlier, Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor started exploring a sale of the NBA team. Interestingly, Kevin Garnett has a fraught relationship with the Minnesota native and businessman.

To recall, Taylor bought the Wolves a year before the “Uncut Gems” actor was selected fifth overall by the organization. However, he has rarely seen eye to eye with the star forward. Former head coach Flip Saunders, who tragically passed away several years ago, convinced the team to trade for Garnett in 2015 while Taylor was vehemently against the move.

Garnett was voted as a first-ballot Hall of Famer this year, alongside former on-court rivals Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan, although the ceremony was postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

KG could be the next former NBA star as a team owner, following in the footsteps of six-time champion Michael Jordan, majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
