Veteran guard Russell Westbrook provided his thoughts on potentially remaining with the Sacramento Kings after the 2025-26 NBA season.

Westbrook completed the 18th season of his career, his first with the Kings. While past his superstar years, the nine-time All-Star continued to provide impressive performances as a full-time starter for Sacramento.

Even though the Kings' season ended, Westbrook enjoyed his time in Sacramento so far. He discussed the idea of returning to the team for next season during exit interviews on Monday, knowing he will go through free agency as an unrestricted free agent.

“It’s been great for me here,” Westbrook said of Sacramento, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “If I’m welcomed back, then I’ll be back. But that’s not up to me. It’s kind of how it’s been for me for the last couple of summers and seasons.”

“Anywhere I’m wanted, I’m there. I want to be able to be helpful, be productive. I also understand it’s a business. I’ve been around a long time, so I understand a lot of different variables for that. That’s out of my control. My job is to be ready, be prepared and be ready to go.”

Russell Westbrook had impressive efforts as he nears the final years of his remarkable NBA career. He will see if the Kings will have him back for next season.

Westbrook had a relatively healthy campaign as he took part in 64 games this season. He averaged 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game. He shot 42.7% from the field, including 33.8% from beyond the arc, and 69.4% from the free-throw line.

Sacramento ended the season with a 22-60 record, tied with the Utah Jazz for the worst in the Western Conference standings. They are under the likes of the Memphis Grizzlies and the Dallas Mavericks.

The Kings will continue building the roster in the offseason through the draft and free agency. They hope to get back to their first playoffs since 2023 and their second in 20 years ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
