Brooklyn Nets superstar James Harden has been on a mini-slump recently–for his standards– and he may have broken out of it on Tuesday night in New York as he dropped 34 points in a win over the New York Knicks. For the big game, Harden credited not his coaching staff or his trainer, not his chef or even his teammates. Harden said that NBA hall-of-famer and one of the greatest shooters of all-time, Reggie Miller, was the one who helped him the most to get out of the “slump.”

As Harden tells it, Miller just so happened to be in town to broadcast the game for TNT, asked if he could speak with Harden…and the rest is history. When asked post-game about the comments, Harden had this to say about their “mini shooting summit”:

“Yeah, it was definitely that, Reggie was the one who got me going. He's the one that got me going for sure. Yeah man, just ultimate confidence, ultimate, best player in the league type vibe that mindset it was some good motivation before the game, something I needed.”

While Harden may think that this meeting with the NBA legend was something that he needed, his numbers and the Nets' record are far from needing fine-tuning. After the win on Tuesday, the Nets are now 15-6 and have the best record in the Eastern Conference. Harden, although his points per game have dropped from a career average of 25 down to 20 in the 2021 season, he is still averaging more rebounds and assists than his career averages.
