Patrick Mahomes is arguably the biggest young star in the NFL. Ask Brooklyn Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson who Kyrie Irving reminds him off and he'll tell you it's the Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback.

Per Alex Schiffer of The Athletic, Atkinson compared his point guard's recent play to Mahomes. Atkinson then added that “he's no Andy Reid” but sometimes you just have to let great players play.

Irving is undoubtedly one of the best players in the NBA. The 27-year-old is in the midst of the best season of his career. In his first campaign with the Nets, Irving is averaging a career-high 28.3 points per game to go along with 6.5 assists and 5.2 rebounds while shooting 48.0 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from deep.

In recent games, Kyrie Irving has taken his game to new levels. Irving has compiled 119 points in the last three games including 54 markers on 19-of-23 shooting Friday against the Chicago Bulls.

As for Mahomes, the third-year quarterback out of Texas Tech already has a league MVP award to his name. In 14 regular-season games this season, the Chiefs QB has completed 65.9 percent of his passes for 4,031 yards, 26 touchdowns, and just five interceptions.

Mahomes is also headed to the first Super Bowl of his career on Sunday after leading his team through the playoff gauntlet. The Chiefs will face the San Fransisco 49ers for the title.

Both Kyrie Irving and Patrick Mahomes have the innate ability to completely take over games and are near unstoppable when they're hot. In that way, Atkinson's comparison is accurate.
